The Body of Water
2025
Watercolor on paper
46×61 cm
This work starts as an intuitive exploration of form and gesture. Without a predetermined composition, I allowed myself to paint abstract symbols freely, focusing on the repetition of a single movement with little variation. The process became a meditative act, an attempt to quiet my mind and find a sense of inner calm through bodily rhythm. It was my first time experimenting with action-based mark-making, which let my hand move instinctively and let my thoughts stay quiet at the same time.
As the paper was filled with marks, I stepped back to observe what emerged. Some forms began to resemble iron chains, others might seem to evoke the fluidity of Chinese calligraphy. The transparency and flow of watercolor also introduced textures and interesting colors, resulting in unexpected results. This unpredictability was one of the most rewarding aspects of the process, as it allowed the materials to participate in the work alongside my gestures.
