Emotion No. 2

2025
Acrylic on canvas
141×78 cm

In this piece, all the shapes were created while my eyes were closed. Initially, I drew lines and forms freely without seeing, and after opening my eyes, I started layering colors onto the shapes. I applied multiple layers, each using completely different colors, which allowed some colors to show through while others would be covered by the change in paint transparency, creating a sense of depth. In the last layer, I used my left hand to increase texture and unexpected brushstrokes, which added an unpredictable quality to the piece.

It is always hard for me to explain the meaning behind the work, since it is more about recording a state of being. This piece captures the hours I spent painting with a clear mind, focusing only on the combination of colors and the act of creating. During the process, I felt a lot of confusion, as the colors often looked disharmonious to me, which made me keep painting over and over, adding more layers than I originally planned. This work is my attempt to explore a fleeting, hard-to-define emotion, and I hope to capture the quiet, immersive mindset I entered while painting it.
